Zoggs Bluefinz Fins – Review

When I first saw these fins, because of their shape and how they felt in my hands I expected them to be another pair of stiff power fins. I was very pleasantly surprised to find out that they are not.

Material Look & Feel

These are made from silicone making them light and soft, this is important because it allows for more flexibility when kicking which, when combined with their medium length, leads to a more natural kick. It also means they are quite comfortable despite my wide feet and they don’t rub uncomfortably on any part of my feet. They don’t float, so unlike the Aquasphere fins you can’t rely on them keeping your legs up without kicking, if that is what you are looking for in a fin. This coupled with their open toe also means they are easier to get on and off, especially if I’m trying to do that while still in the water.

Power & Speed

If I were to compare them to other fins I’ve reviewed I would place them somewhere between the Crossblades and the Zoomers. They are longer than the Zoomers and slightly stiffer, so they generate more power and therefore more speed. They are also like the Zoomers in that they don’t overwork any particular part of the legs when using them. However, being softer, more flexible and slightly shorter than the Crosblades they aren’t as powerful, or fast. This does mean they are much easier on the legs.

They are comfortable when sprinting as they allow me to easily keep a fast tempo. They are also one of the few fins I’ve found that didn’t overpower me on butterfly allowing me to have a more natural stroke while wearing them.

What’s in a name?

I got these fins from my local pool, when I googled them I found the exact same fin (in design and sometimes even colour) seems to also be sold under the names Fashy and Aquaspeed amongst others. My daughter has a pair of Maru fins that for all intents and purposes seem to be the same in both design and material but are simply in different colours. As you can see in the image, if you took off the brands they would look the exact same. My daughter loves these fins, I think its because they are easier on the legs than the previous pair she had and softer on the skin.
